NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was hospitalized Friday night after falling at a concert in Los Angeles, according to TMZ Sports.
Abdul-Jabbar reportedly broke his hip from the tumble and was transported to UCLA Hospital for treatment.
A representative of Abdul-Jabbar’s, Deborah Morales, told TMZ that he is “deeply appreciative” of the Los Angeles Fire Department and the “amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of (him).”
It isn’t clear which concert Abdul-Jabbar was attending.
The 76-year-old basketball icon has dealt with a number of health issues in recent years.
Abdul-Jbbar revealed in late 2020 that he had fought prostate cancer, leukemia and had heart bypass surgery in the past.
After winning three national titles with John Wooden at UCLA, Abdul-Jabbar played 20 seasons in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks, winning six championships and six MVP awards.
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer was the all-time NBA scoring leader until last February, when he was surpassed by LeBron James, which he was in attendance for.
Abdul-Jabbar has long been one of the most outspoken athletes in sports when it comes to social issues, including racism, anti-semitism and COVID-19.
